With over 30 years in the planning, spatial, environmental, and engineering space, Jason is no stranger to the ever-changing industry we work in. Before this role, Jason was the CEO of a local environmental and geotechnical business in Central Otago, Southland , and Canterbury, and prior to that, the NZ Director of Operations (Environmental Spatial, Planning and Water Engineering) for a large global consultancy.
Jason is practical and people-focused, and it is his passion for our industry that makes him a great fit for our business.
In his spare time, Jason enjoys spending time with his family, farming, classic cars, and anything outdoors, from fishing, hunting, boating, to gold mining and prospecting!
Kathryn Hooper

Executive Director
027 759 2044 | kathryn@landpro.co.nzOne of our founding Company Directors, Kathryn, is based in our Taranaki offices and constantly reminds us that New Plymouth has more sunshine hours than Central Otago.
A proud Taranaki local, Kath has a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management (Applied Science) and a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management from Central Queensland University. Kath has worked in the private sector as an environmental planner since 2001, prior to which she spent four years in monitoring and enforcement at Taranaki and Wellington Regional Councils. She is an experienced expert witness at the Environment Court level.
Kath is a strategic leader, and her focus is on guiding projects through complex RMA processes. This includes large-scale land & urban development, minerals, petroleum, and agriculture. She has a strong focus on driving public consultation, relationships, and environmental management/compliance around these projects as they progress. Kath also has over 20 years’ experience with Health, Safety and Quality Management and is responsible for our QHS System (ISO9001:2015).
Kath is a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
Outside of Landpro, Kath Chairs the Board of Trustees for Taranaki Women’s Refuge. In her free time, she will either be on an outdoor adventure or working on a renovation project!
Mike Borthwick

National Manager Aerial Surveying/Executive Director
027 588 8779 | mike@landpro.co.nzBorn and raised in Gore, Mike started out his surveying career with the Royal New Zealand Navy, training in the Hydrographic branch of the Navy. After numerous deployments around New Zealand and the South Pacific gaining experience in all aspects of Hydrographic Surveying, Mike left the navy to start a role in a survey consultancy firm back in the south.
He then moved into a mining role at one of New Zealand’s largest gold mines, before heading overseas to work on a variety of projects, including Oil and Gas, Railway, Roading and civil projects. At the start of 2008 Mike and his family returned to New Zealand choosing Cromwell as their final destination and commencing work for Landpro as a Senior Surveyor.
In April 2012 Mike became a director in the company and along with Kate and Kathryn strives to provide the level of service and detail of care for his clients that he would expect himself. With over 20 years in the survey industry you can rest assured that Mike and his team of surveyors will provide the right solution for your project.
Living in Central Otago, Mike and his family make the most of the recreational activities that the region has to offer and will often be found on a mountain bike or set of skis or simply relaxing down at the lake, that is when he’s not off fighting fires with the local fire brigade.
Kate Scott

Director
027 495 7486 | kate@landpro.co.nzOriginally born and bred in Taranaki, then lived in Central Otago since 2006, until 2025 when she and her family relocated to Wellington to take up the role of CEO at Horticulture NZ.
Kate is one of the founding directors who opened the business in July 2007.
Kate is a graduate from Victoria University with a degree in Geography and Political Science, and since this time has predominantly worked in the private sector as a resource management planner and strategic advisor. Kate has a strong background in planning and project management in the extractive industries, including Mining and Oil and Gas, and in more recent years has been heavily involved with irrigation development and consenting, and consenting and consulting work for the primary production industry.
Kate is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM), the Resource Management Law Association of New Zealand (RMLA), and the institute of directors NZ amongst other memberships.
Andy Burrell

Clifford Botha

Aerial Survey Technical Lead
027 301 6670 | clifford@landpro.co.nzWith over 12 years’ experience in the aerial surveying industry, including work across Africa and the Middle East, Clifford brings a deep, hands-on understanding of the full aerial survey workflow—from data capture and piloting through to processing and analysis.
Clifford joined the business as Technical Lead for Aerial Surveying, where he is responsible for planning data acquisition, coordinating field teams, and overseeing the delivery of accurate, high-quality geospatial products. His focus lies in optimising technical workflows, refining data quality, and ensuring every project meets both client expectations and internal standards.
With a strong interest in complex geospatial datasets, Clifford enjoys the challenge of solving technical problems and improving systems behind the scenes—where detail, precision, and a methodical mindset make all the difference.
Outside of work, he’s a keen squash player, a fan of live rock music, and always up for a pub night with pizza and a cold beer. He has a serious weakness for chocolate and rates a good massage as the best way to unwind after a busy week.

Ayla Meikle

Senior Consultant, Farm Environmental
027 215 1586 | ayla@landpro.co.nzAyla Meikle is a Senior Consultant in Landpro’s Farm Environmental team, bringing a practical and grounded approach to environmental compliance.
With a Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture) from Lincoln University, Ayla combines her knowledge of plant and soil science with extensive hands-on experience in both sheep and dairy systems across New Zealand. Her career includes time with Headwaters NZ, Pāmu Farms, and more recently as a stock manager near Arrowtown.
Ayla works closely with farmers to help them understand and meet environmental regulations in a way that supports their farm systems and long-term goals.
She has a particular interest in soil health, pasture management, and aligning regulatory requirements with day-to-day farming. Ayla’s deep understanding of the land, combined with strong communication skills and up-to-date knowledge of changing rules, makes her a trusted advisor for practical, on-farm environmental solutions. Outside of work, she enjoys horse riding and the outdoors.
Chris Rendall

Principal Planner & Regional Leader Mining & Quarry (North Island)
027 308 8424 | chris@landpro.co.nzChris is a Principal Planner and Team Lead at Landpro, specialising in energy and mining. With over 13 years’ experience across planning, consenting, and policy development, Chris brings deep expertise to complex projects—from site selection through to post-consent management and design changes.
His strong understanding of New Zealand’s resource management system was shaped by his time at the Department of Conservation, where he led work on national policy for renewable energy, aquaculture, freshwater, and biodiversity. He has also worked across a wide range of legislation including the Crown Minerals Act, Wildlife Act, and COVID Fast Track Consenting.
Chris holds a Master of Planning (Distinction) and a BSc in Zoology from Otago University, and has completed specialised training in project management, nutrient management, and the DOC Māori immersion programme.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys time with his young family and has previously been active in professional planning and mining organisations, as well as community fundraising and sport.
Christina Railton

Primary Production & Environmental Scientist Technical Lead

With over six years’ experience in the sector, she is a trusted advisor to clients working in New Zealand’s dynamic agricultural landscape, offering pragmatic, science-based solutions that balance business goals with environmental outcomes.
A graduate of the University of Otago, Christina holds both a BSc (Hons) and a PhD, and brings a strong technical foundation to her work. She has a particular strength in simplifying complex scientific concepts, helping clients navigate environmental challenges with clarity and confidence.
Christina enjoys working closely with landowners and rural businesses to align their environmental strategies with regulatory requirements—whether it's securing consents or supporting long-term sustainability goals.
Outside of work, you’ll find her walking the dog, enjoying a glass of local pinot noir, heading off on the occasional hike, or making trips to Marlborough to fish in the Pelorus Sound.
Claire Perkins

Planning Technical Lead – Water
027 445 6897 | claire@landpro.co.nzClaire is based in the South Island and leads Landpro’s technical planning work in the water space, specialising in irrigation, stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water projects.
With over 18 years’ experience in water resource planning and environmental impact assessment, Claire is skilled in evaluating the social, cultural, and environmental effects of infrastructure projects. She has a strong focus on practical environmental mitigation and often manages complex, multi-disciplinary projects involving stakeholder consultation and Council or Environment Court hearings.
Claire holds a BAppSc (Hons) in Environmental Management and a Postgraduate Certificate in Integrated Catchment Management. She enjoys solving problems and helping clients navigate Council and national regulations to find the right solution.
Outside of work, Claire lives in Wānaka with her two energetic boys and enjoys exploring the outdoors by bike or on the water. She’s also the President of Netball Upper Clutha.
Walter Denley

Walter Denley – Principal Planner (South Island) & Technical Lead – Strategy

As Principal Planner, Walter specialises in working closely with clients to explore practical options, navigate complex planning frameworks, and see projects through to successful outcomes.
With a rural background and a strong understanding of land-based industries, Walter particularly enjoys supporting farmers and rural landowners through regulatory processes. Based in our Cromwell office, he brings a strategic and solutions-focused approach to a wide range of projects across the South Island.
Outside of work, Walter enjoys spending time outdoors with his family—running, biking, skiing, and playing squash.
Nathan Archer

National Survey Manager & South Island Manager
021 027 57425 | nathan@landpro.co.nzNathan is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and joined the company’s Cromwell office in 2012. He began his surveying career in 1995 working for a small firm specialising in engineering and industrial measurement survey. While working he studied part time towards the New Zealand Certificate in Land Surveying and graduated in 1998.
He then moved to a Land Surveying firm and gained a wealth of experience in Cadastral Surveying before heading to Dunedin to study towards his bachelor’s degree. Nathan graduated with a Bachelor of Surveying with First Class Honours in 2004. He stayed in Otago and proceeded to gain experience in highway design, land development engineering and construction. He has since passed his Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board requirements and admitted as a full member to the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. Nathan is now working towards becoming a Registered Professional Surveyor.
Nathan brings over 20 years of experience in a variety of survey disciplines to the company. He has worked on a number of large land development projects including stage 1 and 2 of the Millbrook Land to the west development and also held a leading role in geometrical design and construction of the Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.
Nathan now calls Cromwell home after living in there for the past 10 years. He is an avid mountain biker, hockey player and motorsport enthusiast.
Ian Dickey

Survey Manager – North Island
027 327 1909 | ian@landpro.co.nzBased in our New Plymouth office, Ian joined Landpro in 2019 as Survey Manager, bringing over two decades of surveying experience both in New Zealand and abroad.
After graduating from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Surveying, Ian began his career in London, working as an Engineering Surveyor on large-scale infrastructure projects including Canary Wharf and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. In these roles, he provided horizontal and vertical control and liaised with construction teams to ensure design accuracy.
Since returning to New Zealand in 2004, Ian has led a wide range of projects across cadastral and topographical surveying, subdivision and 3 Waters design, project management, drone mapping, and reality data capture. His specialist skills include civil and engineering surveying, 3D laser scanning, and drone-based aerial surveying.
Ian is a member of Survey and Spatial NZ and has training in LUV operation, chainsaw use, and drone management under Civil Aviation Rules Part 101 & 102.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys exploring the outdoors and contributing his technical knowledge to complex surveying challenges across a variety of sectors.
Ben Smith

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor – Wanaka
027 249 2478 | ben.smith@landpro.co.nzBen is a surveyor based in Landpro’s Wanaka office, bringing over 15 years of experience across New Zealand and Australia. After graduating from the University of Otago in 2009, Ben spent several years working on major construction and land development projects in Melbourne, Perth, and regional Western Australia, where he also completed his cadastral licensing.
Since returning to New Zealand, Ben has worked in the top of the South Island, gaining broad experience across a wide variety of surveying and land development projects. Now based in Wanaka, he’s excited to be part of Landpro’s growing Central Otago presence and to work alongside a forward-thinking team delivering innovative solutions for clients.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys exploring the region’s mountain biking trails and making the most of the great outdoors.
